The good results that can be attained by college institutions established for the encouragement of intellectual pursuits have been amply shown by the success that has attended the Harvard Finance Club. Through the efforts of this society the Cobden Club of London was induced to offer a prize for the best essay on subjects appropriate to the needs and purposes of the organization, and, through the prospect of the prize thus offered, the Finance Club were able to promote great interest and valuable competition in the work in which they are exerting themselves. It is certainly a compliment to the society that the excellent Cobden Club, the very centre of all economic discussions, should have taken so decided an interest in their proceedings as to offer the prize mentioned. The society, together with similar ones in the university, is destined to play a leading part in the future work of students, and even in the regulation of financial and political courses.
