The New York musical festival opened successfully last night. The orchestra was composed as follows:

36 Violincellos. 4 Trumpets,
40 Double basses, 1 Bass trumpet,
6 Harps, 6 Tenor trombones,
6 Flates, 2 Bass trombones,
2 Picolos, 2 Tubas,
6 Oboes, 4 Kettle drums,
2 English horns, 2 Bass drums,
6 Clarinets, 2 Small drums,
2 Basset horns, 1 Tenor drum,
2 Bass clarinets, 2 Cymbals,
6 Bassoons, 2 Triangles,
2 Contra bassoons.
The programme of the evening's concert was as follows:
Cantata, "A Stronghold Saro."......Bach Bass Recitative, Mr. Whitney; Tenor Recitative, Mr. Candidos.
Symphony in C (Jupiter)......Mozart Recitative and Aria, "Abaehoulicher" (Fidelio). Beethoven Fran Friedrich-Materns.
