It has been announced that the number of contestants for the Boylston prizes has been reduced from twenty to sixteen. This is one of the most desirable steps that could have been taken in the matter. In all previous years the fault has been that the audience was wearied by the large number of speeches. In addition to this, the judges have frequently found it difficult to judge decisively, at least, as to the relative merits of the candidates. These and all similar inconveniences will thus be considerably obviated.
