Dr. Abbott says the English college student is the "university gentleman." "No student smokes in the streets; no gentleman student drinks at a bar; drunkenness is rare and disgraceful; the wine parties that Tom Brown used to attend are going out of fashion; college rows and scrapes are things of the past; the ancient brawls between town and gown are no more known; hazing is unheard of."
