FOOT-BALL.

Harvard, '86, 1 Goal; Yale, '86, 1 Goal.

The foot-ball match to decide the class championship between the Harvard and Yale freshmen took place on Holmes field Saturday and resulted in a tie. The warmer weather of Friday gave the freshmen a chance to remove the snow, which threatened to interfere with the match, and by Saturday noon the ground was in fair condition. About 2.40 the ball was kicked off and by pretty rushing Harvard forced the ball well up to Yale's goal. Yale rallied, however, and carried it down the field by a pretty run of Peters'. Good rushing by Austin and Adams forced Yale back to her own ground, and Austin tried for a goal but failed. The fighting soon changed to Harvard's territory, and, after several attempts, Young kicked a goal from the field for Yale. In the second three-quarters, Harvard settled down to work and by the fine running of the rush line the ball was brought down the field almost to Yale's poles. Harvard lined out, and in a twinkling their half-back, Austin, receiving the ball, sent it square over the bar, tieing the score. During the rest of the three-quarters the game was carried on almost entirely in Yale's territory, but our men played rather unsteadily and failed to score, Yale touching back five times for safety. Adams and Ayers did capital rushing, and at one time Austin sent the ball directly over the bar, but no goal was allowed, as the ball touched one of the Yale rushers. The inning closed with a tie, and it was decided to play two more quarters. Play was resumed in five minutes, but before the two innings were finished time was called by the referee on account of darkness. The teams were quite evenly matched, the advantage, if there was any, being slightly in favor of the crimson. Austin did splendid work for Harvard, while Ayers, Adams and Woodbury deserve especial mention for their steady and effective rushing. For Yale, Harding worked very well, while Peters and Goodlet did effective rushing. The teams were made up as follows : Harvard. - Rushers, Adams, Hartley, Vogel, Haughton, Ayers, Phillips, Woodbury (captain) ; quarter-back, Clark; half-backs, Austin, Kimball; full-back, Hitchcock. Yale. - Rushers, Colgate, Cowles, Stuart, Peters, Kimball, Phelps, Goodlet (captain); quarter-back, Harding; half-backs, Young, Brigham; full-back, Lambert. Referee, E. T. Cabot of Harvard; judge for Harvard, W. H. Goodwin; judge for Yale, W. I. Badger.
