We learn that the faculty at their last meeting postponed the consideration of the petition for the extension of the Thanksgiving recess until their next meeting, which will be held one week from Monday. It appears, furthermore, that the faculty has no power to grant the desired extension. All that they can do is to consider the matter and send the petition with their recommendation to the corporation and board of overseers, who will grant it or not, as they see fit. It is not probable, however, that there will be time to take action upon the matter this year, and it looks as if we shall be obliged to put up with the short recess this year, at least.
