The suggestion of Mr. Waring, '82, in our yesterday's issue, that the University Boat Club this year inaugurate the custom of electing a junior treasurer of the club from among the four assistant treasurers of the previous sophomore year, we consider an excellent one. That it should be understood that this treasurer should in his senior year be, as a matter of course, promoted to the position of president of the club, is perhaps a suggestion of more doubtful expediency. The university would hardly feel inclined to be bound from year to year by any such an obligation, although no doubt in the majority of cases it might be the best policy to pursue, to elect each former treasurer to the presidency in his senior year. But there might arise occasions, where it would be very desirable to break this rule, and in such cases such a custom as this would be found to be very inconvenient.
