Hon. W. C. DePaunt has promised gifts amounting to $1,000,000 to the Indiana Ashbury University.

The English schools have largely introduced military drill as a means of exercise. It is taught to all the boys in 1,172 schools.

The valuable library of the late Geo. P. Marsh, American minister to Italy, containing 12,000 volumes, has been purchased by Mr. F. Billings and given to the University of Vermont.

A London correspondent notes a feeling, prevalent in England, that the universities of Oxford and Cambridge fall far short of what is offered in the less wealthy universities of Germany.

The tennis tournament between Amherst and Trinity Wednesday resulted as follows: Singles-Trinity over Amherst, 6-2, 6-5; doubles-Trinity over Amherst, 6-5, 6-4, 1-6, 0-6, 6-4, 6-1.

Twenty-two young colored converts were required by Rev. Mr. Cottrell of the Union Baptist Church, Cottrellville, Va., to pledge themselves "in the presence of God not to play base-ball or marbles."
