Lovers of athletics in Boston hail with pleasure the commencement of the fall term at Harvard. The Harvard Athletic Club is now the only really active club in Massachusetts. There was an active organization called the Union Athletic Club, but it is now dormant. While Mr. Ferris was on hand the club was prosperous and successful, and it is unfortunate that he is unable to continue his efforts. The foot-ball season has already opened at Harvard, and candidates are at work. Hard work alone will enable Harvard to make a good showing, as some of the best players in college graduated last year. The university, however, has Richard D. Sears, the amateur champion of the United States at lawn tennis, and many other fine players. That the interest in athletics will not only be maintained, but will be greater than ever, is evinced by the fact that all lockers are taken, and the 125 new ones in course of construction will no doubt be spoken for. - [Clipper.
