About fifty members of the freshman class accompanied the eleven to Exeter Saturday, and were rewarded by an interesting and exciting game. At a quarter past three the game was called, Exeter kicking off. The ball was quickly carried up to Harvard's goal only to be borne back by brilliant runs and good kicking on the part of '86. Ennis of the Harvard eleven was injured in the ankle after a fine run, and his place was ably filled by Littaner. The first three quarters ended with one touchdown for the freshmen.

From the playing of Exeter during the second three quarters, it was evident that she was getting badly demoralized, and although by a desperate effort she managed to get the ball up near Harvard's goal, it was quickly sent back again by a run of Adams.

The game closed with three touchdowns for Harvard, Exeter being obliged to make six safety touchdowns. The playing of the Harvard eleven was much better than was expected, considering the short time they have had for practice. But it was evident that more experience in good kicking would be of advantage. The fine playing of Adams, Burnet, Austin and Phillips of the '86 eleven was especially noticeable, while for Exeter, Holden and Marble did good work. The Harvard eleven was composed as follows: Rushers - Adams, Fiske, Ennis, Dewey, Burnet, Phillips and Woodbury captain; quarter-back, Clark; half-backs, Cabot and Austin; full-back, H. Kimball; substitutes, Littaner and Strauss. The Exeter eleven were: Rushers - Merrill, Van Schaick, Higgins, Brooks, Ketcham and Cooley; quarter-back, Milliard; half-backs, Green and Holden; full-back, Marble. Mr. Noyes umpired for Harvard and Mr. Bales for Exeter. Mr. Reed of Lawrence acted as referee. At the close of the game the Harvard eleven was tendered supper by the Exeter men.
