We hear it stated that one of England's most prominent scientists proposes the introduction of opium-smoking into England, to take the place of the drinking of spirituous liquors. He shows by statistics that the percentage of insane caused by opium-smoking is much less than that caused by drinking. He proposes in this manner to do away with all poor-houses and insane asylums.
