WESTERN TELEGRAPHIC UNION.

1.

A DAINTY youth from Oberlin,

All on a summer's day,

Went out to walk upon the mall,

And met a maiden gay.

2.

The maiden worked a telegraph;

But then, she was so neat

The youth just gave one rapturous look,

And tumbled at her feet.

3.

Her eyes, a perfect battery,

Smiled on him from above,

And through his sinking heart there shot

Electric shocks of love.

4.

He rose, and seized her by the hand,

And called her his attraction;

"Now shan't we close the circuit, dear?

I love you to distraction."

5.

She said she thought he was a cell,

But still their polls drew nearer :

What next? Electric sparks, of course,

For what could there be clearer?

6.

He wooed and won her on the spot,

Exactly where he found her.

They did the business with despatch,

And sealed it with a "sounder."
