IN response to numerous requests from members of the University, we present this week a list of those best American Amateur records which are held by Mr. L. E. Myers of the Manhattan Club, New York, the gentleman who is to represent America in the English Amateur championships this spring. Up to November 20th last, Mr. Myers held, in addition to the following list, the best record at 300 yards and 350 yards running, with records of 34 1-5 and 39 seconds respectively; but on the above date Mr. R. S. Haley of the Olympic Club, San Francisco, succeeded in bettering Myers's times at these distances (as mentioned in the Crimson at the time), 32 5-8 and 38 1-4 seconds for the respective distances being credited to him; and since this time Mr. Myers has not had an opportunity to attempt the surpassing of Mr. Haley's records.
The two most prominent of Myers's English opponents will be Mr. W. P. Phillips of the London Athletic Club, whose records are very fast for the short distances, i.e., 100 yards in 10 1-5 seconds, 120 yards in 12 seconds, 150 yards in 15 seconds, and 220 yards in 22 2-5 seconds; and for the longer distances Mr. W. C. George, Moseley Harriers, whose record for the mile run, 4 minutes and 23 1-5 seconds, is about 5 1-2 seconds faster than Myers's own record. Myers's American friends, however, are confident of his ability to hold his own against any athletes England can produce, and he will leave New York on the 21st of May next, with the good wishes and confidence of a host of friends all over the country.
The London Athletic Club have made him an honorary member of their club, so that on his arrival he will have every opportunity given him to prepare for his contests. Appended is the desired list: -

Our only fear for Mr. Myers is that he may not become fully acclimated in time for the sports; but, if he is in a position to do himself justice on the day of the English championships, we do not doubt that he will amply prove to his friends that their confidence is not misplaced. We wish him all possible success.
The winter meeting of the N. Y. Athletic Club will take place on March 14 and 15 next, and that of the Manhattan Athletic Club on the following day, March 16, - both to be held at the Madison Square Garden, New York. The latter is given for the purpose of raising sufficient money to pay the expenses of Myers in England. Among other attractions, Myers himself will attempt to beat his own 3-4-mile record, in which attempt he will be assisted by several prominent amateurs; as, L. A. Stuart, Voorhees, White, &c., who will run with him in turn, relieving each other at intervals. It will doubtless be a great performance for that track.
The N. Y. Sportsman has failed to make its appearance for the last six weeks or more. We hope that the expense attendant upon its December improvements has not compelled the editors to discontinue it. We shall issue with the Crimson a revised copy of our best-on-record tables which appeared last year. They will be very carefully revised, and all the corrections will be made which this last busy athletic year has rendered necessary.
