SPORTING COLUMN.

ACCORDING to the motion passed at the Intercollegiate Convention, on January 22, last, in regard to the championship cup, "the names of the winning colleges, with its individual winners, for the past five years, as well as future winners, are to be engraved on the cup." In this connection we looked up the records, thinking that the list of the successful colleges and individual winners might interest our readers. They are as follows : -

In 1876 Princeton was victorious with four events, no other college securing more than two. The list of the winning team, with the events, and the records made, is as follows : -

In 1880 Harvard wins it, for the first time, with six events, Columbia second, with three events. The list is : -

In the above tables only the names which are to be engraved on the cup have been given. The winners of the other events, with their records and the names of their colleges, will be found by referring to the Crimson of June 18, 1880 (Vol. XV., No. 9).

* If graduate events are to be counted, Princeton ties Columbia in this year; but we feel that, in the contest for the cup, undergraduate events alone ought to count; and so give the championship title for 1878 to Columbia, all of whose seven events were won by undergraduates.

* Columbia also secured one graduate event in this year, in addition to her winning list.
