WE do not seem to be giving very hearty support this fall to our University Athletics, either by subscriptions or by training, for the honor of the Crimson. The Football Team, of which we were all so proud, was well supported, it is true, when it went to New Haven, and realized a sum sufficient to be a decided help in paying its expenses. But the cost of the two New York trips was large, and on account of the bad weather but very little money was taken at the gate, so that the Team fell considerably behind in finances. The managers are now going among the students, trying to stir them up to a little more enthusiastic support. We cannot urge too strongly upon all the College that we owe a great deal to the Football Team, and that we should not allow it to remain in debt a moment longer. Then, too, in regard to the 'Varsity Crew, as the Echo said, " Less interest was apparently taken in the University Crew and the race with Yale, than was taken in the Class Crews and their Spring Races." This is only too painfully true, and though many say that after Christmas the men will "brace up" and begin to try, still that seems too indefinite a way to set about winning the race from Yale, who has had almost all her old men, and many more, in training for over six weeks. If our rowing men will enter into training with energy and determination, they will inspire the whole College with hope, and will receive such decided and universal encouragement as will reward them for all their efforts.
