THE Harvard Index for 1882, a handsomely printed book of convenient size, lies before us. Notwithstanding the fact that in the preface the compiler modestly urges his own inexperience as an excuse for possible shortcomings, we must aver that the compilation is fully up to the standard of previous years. The information given appears to be correct, so far as a hasty examination permits us to judge. That a few typographical errors should exist is inevitable, humanly speaking. But the editing, on the whole, is careful and judicious, and we trust that we may have the pleasure of welcoming next year another Index from the same hands. It is to be hoped that the merits of the present issue will induce a larger sale than ever before, since it is a publication really valuable to every member of the University.
