THE return game with Brown was played in Providence on Friday, June 7. A high wind prevailed, rendering hard batting impossible. The game was fairly interesting up to the ninth inning, when six errors by Brown, base-hits by Thayer and Fessenden, and a sacrifice hit by Ernst gave Harvard four runs. Errors by Thayer, Wright, and Ernst and two passed balls gave Brown a run in the ninth. In the eighth inning base-hits by Howe and Nunn and a sacrifice hit by Thayer gave Harvard an earned run. Ernst and Howe did most of the work for Harvard, while the outfield were kept busy on the Brown nine.

HARVARD vs. AMHERST.Loose fielding by Amherst and clever base running by Harvard gave our nine an easy victory on Wednesday. The batting on both sides was rendered weak by the skilful pitching of Andrews and Ernst. Howe played finely behind the bat; Blair and Plimpton excelled in the field for Amherst, while Wright, Nunn, and Thayer played best for Harvard. Winsor led for both sides at the bat, and our Nine has been greatly strengthened by the acquisition of so plucky a player. Tyng once more resumed an active position on the Nine, but the weak batting of Amherst did not give him a chance to exhibit his skill in the field. Thayer made a brilliant catch of a hot liner, and Ernst held a fly, straight from the bat, in his left hand. Thayer, Latham, and Wright made a fine double play in the third inning.
