THE MEETING OF THE H. A. A.

THE meeting of the Athletic Association on last Tuesday evening was one of the largest business meetings which the organization has held. All the seats and the platform in Lower Holden were filled, and the standing-room was crowded. Mr. Thayer, '78, the President of the Association, called the meeting to order, and announced as the business of the evening the election of officers for the ensuing year. The Treasurer's report, presented by Mr. Burr, '79, was first read, and showed the Association was out of debt with a balance of more than fifty dollars on hand. This is a much more favorable financial condition than most societies enjoy. Mr. Wright, '79, Mr. Hooper, '80, and Mr. Twombley, '79, were nominated for President. Mr. Hooper declined the nomination, and Mr. Wright was elected. The office of Vice-President was filled by Mr. Hooper, '80, who was elected by acclamation. The nominations for Secretary were Mr. F. H. Allen, '80, and Mr. S. Hammond, '81. As the show of hands did not indicate with sufficient exactness the sentiment of the house, a vote was taken by ballot and Mr. Hammond was elected, - 67 to 47.

After the election of officers Mr. Wright took the chair, and general business was discussed. A motion was made by Mr. Hooper, '80, and seconded, that an executive committee, consisting of the three officers of the Association, and of eight members selected by the officers from the four classes, two from each class, should have charge of the Association, and fix the time and place of the meetings; the eight members from the four classes to serve as stewards. The motion was carried without much debate, and the meeting adjourned.

The most interesting fact announced during the evening was that Jarvis Field was ready for a track, and that a field meeting would be held there before long. This news was received with enthusiasm; and the interest taken by all the classes in the Association seems to assure its prosperity. We can desire, certainly, nothing better for the H. A. A. than as successful meetings in the future as those of last year.
