ALL the gentlemen composing the Executive Committee - their names will be found in another column - met together on Wednesday evening and decided many important questions. They proceeded immediately to consider the advisability of having an autumn meeting. and after some slight discussion as to the date, fixed upon Saturday, November 2, at 2 P. M.
A sub-committee was then appointed to lay out a track immediately on Jarvis Field. As to lay a proper cinder track would require so much time as to leave none for training, it was decided to make a sod track, and it is thought that it will be fit for use on Monday of next week.
A sub-committee to decide as to the sports and to select all prizes was next appointed. They immediately drew up and submitted the order of events which will be found below. This order was adopted. It was then decided to have an extra special meeting for Freshmen only, on Saturday, October 26. The object of this meeting is to give Freshmen a chance to compete among themselves before entering against some of the more famous athletes of the University. It is thought that by giving them this meeting they still gain confidence in themselves, and come forward in large numbers on the following day. And here, in connection with this, it is urged on all Freshmen to join the Association immediately. They will find the Secretary in his rooms, Grays 42, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 P. M. The cost of joining is only $2.25 (which includes a beautiful shingle), and this sum entitles one to a life membership.
Another sub-committee appointed will draw up a constitution, with a complete set of rules and regulations, covering as far as is possible all the sports. This constitution is first to be submitted to the whole Executive Committee. and then printed in the College papers, with a request that any member of the Association who sees any alterations to make will please note them in writing and send them to the Committee on the Constitution. It may be of some advantage to the gentlemen of this committee to know that the old constitution which has been so long missing has suddenly come into existence again.
The following gentlemen constitute these various sub-committees:-
Committee on Track. - Messrs. Ware, McCurdy, and Kane.
Committee on Sports and Prizes. - Messrs. Hooper, Ware, and Hammond.
Committee on the Constitution. - Messrs. Twombley, Hooper, R. Trimble, Roosevelt, and Warren.
Mr. Ware was then elected Starter; Messrs. Twombley and Hooper, Time-Keepers; Mr. F. W. Thayer, Referee; Messrs. Butler and Danforth, Judges for Walking; Messrs. Wright and R. Trimble, Judges for other Events.
The matter of handicaps was next discussed, and it was decided to begin by handicapping the bicycle race. Consequently, all who intend competing for the bicycle prize in the University Games on November 2 will find it to their interest to be on hand the previous Saturday. The Editor of our "Sporting Column" has offered a prize fully as handsome as the one given last May, for the Winner in this sport.
