THERE are some who love the moonlight
As the soft beams gently play, -
Does the silver planet ever
Cast on them a brighter ray?
To the songs of twilight warblers
Many ears enraptured listen;
At the sight of spring-tide flowers
Loving eyes with pleasure glisten!
Other spirits with devotion
Seek to win a fair one's smile,
But no look of recognition
Doth their constancy beguile.
O, why is it that all nature
Thus will lovers disregard?
Neither birds nor buds nor maidens
Adoration will reward.
