Columbia.- Seventy-nine has a Euchre Club, which is negotiating with '79 of Yale for a match.

- A new society, whose aim is selectness, is being organized in the School of Mines. Its name will be the Beta Sigma Fraternity, and its maximum membership ten.

Cornell.- Colonel T. W. Higginson will be the leading orator of Commencement week.

- Rev. James Freeman Clarke will deliver the Baccalaureate sermon before the Senior class on Sunday, June 17.

- By order of the Board of Directors aspirants for the base ball nine will practise every Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon at 2.30. Since boating is on the decline, base-ball and foot-ball are to be made the specialties for the coming season.

Dartmouth.- The Rev. Henry Griswold Jupsenow, the president of the New England Botanical Society, and as a botanist second to no one in New England, excepting, perhaps, Professor Gray, has been appointed Professor of Natural History in Dartmouth College.

Doubtless it was owing to the petition of the Dartmouth students that John P. Phair was granted a reprieve.

- The semiannual foot-ball match between the Sophomores and Freshmen was won by the former.

Amherst.- For the benefit of candidates for admission living in the West, Examination Boards are to be appointed in Cincinnati and Chicago.

- The clapper and tongue of the college bell have been stolen.

- Professor Root has had a 750-cell battery constructed for his experiments.

Cambridge.- The sanitary conditions of the lodging-houses of the Cambridge undergraduates are attended to by an officer who grants licenses to those landlords only who prove that their houses can accommodate the number of students taken. The price-list of rooms must accompany the application for license.

- An Anti-Alcohol Society has been formed. Members are required to sign the pledge, and subscribe not less than one shilling per annum.

Miscellaneous.- By the will of Mrs. Faber, of Brooklyn, N. Y., Wesleyan gets $6,000.

- Oberlin has given up the custom of having a long vacation in the winter so that students could teach.

- Herr Joachim, the great violinist, recently received the degree of Doctor of Music from Cambridge, England.

- The summer term began at Williams last Friday. The Seniors have three studies, Natural Theology, Logic, and Astronomy.

- Mt. Holyoke Seminary has thirty teachers, four lecturers, including the Rev. Joseph Cook, and two hundred and sixty-two scholars.

- The '76 quartette of Williams will give a concert during the spring vacation, in New York City, in behalf of some charitable enterprise.

- Michigan University has in attendance 1,111 students, apportioned among the various departments as follows: Department of science, literature, and arts, 369; law, 309; medicine and surgery, 285; homoeopathic, 51; dental school, 33.

- The Princeton Faculty have issued the following: "Whereas the Faculty have learned to their entire satisfaction that intoxicating liquors can be obtained at Karl Hellerman's, therefore all students are forbidden to enter his restaurant for any purpose whatever."

- There is an unusually small number of students now in attendance at the Canadian colleges. The University of Toronto has but 48 students, Trinity 29, and Knox 80.

- Both Professors Douglass and Rose, who were implicated in the embezzlement of funds while they had charge of the laboratory of Michigan University, have been dismissed, and will be prosecuted in the courts.
