AMONG other mathematical authorities who denied the possibility of the "twist" in pitching a base ball, was one of our own professors. The heresy, having the countenance of so great a name, spread rapidly among the students, until some even of the disciples of the materialistic school of philosophy doubted the evidence of their senses and trusted to the light of reason. But alas for theory! Last Saturday the pitchers of two of the leading ball-clubs succeeded in pitching around the corner of a fence built at right angles with a line drawn from pitcher's stand to catcher's. We trust that this absolute proof that the "twist" is a possibility will silence the enemies and rejoice the admirers of this greatest "point" in our national game.
