PROFESSOR JOHN MCCRADY has been elected Professor of Biology and the Relation of Religion to Science, in the University of Tennessee.
MR. DARWIN has dedicated his new work on the "Different Forms of Flowers in Plants of the same Species" to Professor Asa Gray.
A FRESHMAN recently gave his address to the money-order clerk, and pompously asked how much it would cost to have his mail delivered.
ARRANGEMENTS are being made for a complimentary dinner, to be tendered to the crew in acknowledgment of their splendid victories of last June.
MANY of the Freshmen took advantage of the rainy day on Tuesday, to pay their respects to the Dean, and were cordially received by the Secretary.
THE Overseers have appointed their visitation committees for 1877 - 78. The committee on the Academical Department numbers forty-eight.
THE Medical School was remembered in the will of Mrs. Mary W. Swett, who died recently. The amount of the bequest has not as yet been ascertained.

THE Scratch Races will take place Saturday, October 13, at 11.30 A.M., over the boat-house course. The book for entries is now open at Richardson's; it will be closed Friday evening. The entrance-fee is fifty cents, as usual.
THE Peabody Museum has been moved to its new quarters, opposite Divinity. The room formerly occupied by this collection is being fitted up for the mineralogical cabinet, and hence the new windows on the west side of Boylston.
WE are requested to remind the Freshmen that the H. U. B. C. rely on them for a large portion of the funds necessary to support the crew. Having no society expenses, they are supposed to be able and they ought to be willing to subscribe very liberally.
THE Sanders Theatre concerts will take place Tuesday evenings; Nov. 13, Dec. 11, Jan. 15, Feb. 12, Mar. 12, Apr. 2. The sale of subscribers' tickets begins next Tuesday at the University Bookstore, and five hundred have already been spoken for.

THE Freshman reading for the Lee Prizes took place in Boylston Hall on Wednesday evening. The committee consisted of Colonel Henry Lee, Professor J. B. Thayer, Professor B. F. Tweed, Professor C. F. Dunbar, Samuel S. Shaw, U. H. Crocker, Professor A. S. Hill, Professor S. Baxter, George W. C. Noble, and John P. Hopkinson. First prizes, of forty dollars each, were awarded to C. Guild and C. W. Lane; and second prizes, of thirty dollars each, to E. L. Went-worth and A. L. Wheeler.
AT a meeting of the executive committee of the Boat-Club, held October 6, it was voted that all members of the University who subscribe for the support of the crew three dollars or more, shall, on signing the Constitution, become members of the Club. The Constitution can be signed at 5 Holyoke House, where keys to the boat-house can be obtained on payment of twenty-five cents. Members of the Club who wish to secure rests or lockers must apply to the Vice-President, at 41 Beck Hall. The rent of rests for one boat is ten dollars a year, and this includes the use of a locker. The rent of a locker alone is three dollars.
