IN a week or two the first scratch-races of the season will take place. These races have always been very interesting, but we think they might be made still more so if they were between scratch club-crews. As they have been heretofore conducted, they have been more like tub than boat races. The rowing has been very poor, and the number of fouls from the beginning to the end have been innumerable. If crews from the clubs only were allowed to enter the race, it strikes us the race would be more exciting. The danger of fouling can be entirely done away with by having two stake-boats instead of one, and by having the races rowed in heats. The rowing also might be made better by informing the captains of the time of the race a week beforehand, in order that the crews might have a little practice together.
