THE interest in rifle-shooting has developed here with great rapidity in the past two or three months, and the Harvard Rifle Club was formally organized some weeks ago, as we announced at the time. This club has laid out a plan of work which cannot fail, if carried out in all its particulars, to develop skilful marksmen. The club will hold at least ten matches a year, - monthly matches, at which all members of the club who have rifles can compete; spring and fall matches for teams representing the different buildings as they are divided into boat-clubs; and an annual match for the championship of the club. It is hoped that the graduates interested in rifle-shooting will offer a cup to be awarded to the champion, which he may hold for a year at least; and the club proposes to give in addition a badge which will become the property of the winner of the match. In the various other contests there will be two prizes offered, - a first prize of the value of five dollars, and a second one of two dollars. Since the practice range was secured the shooting has shown marked improvement. In the last match a score of 40 out of a possible 50 was made at two hundred yards, and in practice 42 out of 50 and 23 out of 25 have been scored at the same range. The club now numbers about twenty members, and the entrance-fee has been fixed at five dollars. If the present interest continues, we shall expect to see, in the spring, some remarkable shooting.
