THE class of '74 recently passed the following resolutions on the death of two of their members.

Whereas it has pleased Almighty God to remove from our number our friend and classmate William Samuel Eliot, -

Resolved, That recognizing in his death the hand of a Divine Providence, we yet deeply regret and mourn the early close of so promising a life.

Resolved, That in his long career of trying illness, which has for more than two years separated him from us, we call to mind, with feelings of admiration, his manly fortitude and unfailing patience under suffering.

Resolved, That a copy of these resolutions be sent to the family of the deceased as a token of respect to and remembrance of our late classmate.

Whereas it has seemed good to Almighty God, in his infinite wisdom, to take from us our beloved friend and classmate, Nicholas Reed, -

Resolved, That in the death of our classmate we mourn the loss of a faithful friend and a true Christian, who, by a life short but faithful in good works, has made his memory dear to the many, in administering to whose needs that life was spent.

Resolved, That we would hereby offer his family and his friends our consolation and sympathy in this their great affliction.

Resolved, That a copy of these resolutions be sent to his bereaved family, and also that they be inserted in the Magenta.

THE Sophomore class passed the following resolution on the, death of their classmate, Henry Baxter Hastings.

Whereas we have been deprived of a loved friend and classmate by the sudden death of Henry Baxter Hastings, -

Resolved, That as his classmates we feel deeply the loss of one so distinguished for nobleness of character, for faithfulness to duty, and for many talents which were ever an honor to his class: as his companions we shall ever miss so genial and true a friend.

Resolved, That while as yet we can hardly realize this so great misfortune, - the first that has befallen our class, - we tender our heartfelt sympathy to his bereaved family.

Resolved, That a suitable delegation from the class be appointed to attend the funeral.

Resolved, That, as a mark of the esteem in which our classmate was held, we wear the customary badge of mourning for the usual time.

Resolved, That a copy of these resolutions be sent to his brother, and that they be published in the College papers and the Boston Daily Advertiser.
