All parts of the Union, excepting the Library and Dining Room, will, beginning today, be open during the regular hours, from 7.30 A.M. to midnight. The Dining Room will be started at luncheon this noon, and tomorrow the Library will be ready for use.

For a week after the opening of College the Union will be open to all members of the University for inspection, but after that time only Union members will be admitted. Any student enrolled in a department of the University during the current academic year may become an active member by payment of the annual dues of $10, which may be charged on his term bill. Officers and past members of the University who reside within 25 miles of Cambridge, and students in the departments located outside of Cambridge may obtain associate memberships with annual dues of $5, payable in advance. Associate membership with holds the privilege of voting. Information in regard to non-resident and life-memberships may be had at the Union office.

With the exception of breakfast this morning, meals will be served to members in the Dining Room at the regular hours: breakfast, 7.30 A.M. to 12 M.; luncheon, 12 M. to 2 P.M.; dinner, 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. Light refreshments may be obtained through the bellboys from 12 M. to 11 P.M. The ladies' dining room and reception room and the gallery of the Living Room will be open daily from noon to 8 P.M. to ladies accompanied by a member. The entire building will be open to ladies accompanied by a member on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month.

Union's Place in the University.

The following statement of the purpose and status of the Union is intended especially for new students. The Union was founded in 1899 by Major Henry Lee Higginson h.'55, and was intended by him to be "a house open to all Harvard men without restriction and in which they all stand equal." Not only has his wish been realized, but the Union has also proved to be in many respects the centre of College life. The Living Room affords a meeting place for large numbers of students for mass meetings, class smokers and lectures. The restaurant performs the service of providing a first-class restaurant fare. A billiard room, a writing and game room and a library of fiction and text books are adequately equipped. The basement and third floor provide offices for the undergraduate papers, the CRIMSON, Advocate, and Monthly. The Union, in short, is an institution which plays a most important part in University life and aims to promote the best ideals of comradeship and unity.
