Selection of six Freshmen to enter the finals in the Tercentenary Speaker Competition was made last night following the preliminary trials at the Union.

Those chosen from 20-odd entrants are Jack D. Andrews, Robert Bean, Robert M. Coquillette, Rendings Fels, Robert M. Grubbs and Morgan T. Preston.

Each competitor delivered a five-minute speech on the general topic of life in the Yard. Judging the event were George Gore '34 and Edward H. Hickey '33, Freshman debating coaches.

Finals Next Week

The finals will be held next week, when C. Colmery Gibson '37 will assist Gore and Hickey in the judging. Gibson is the representative of the Undergraduate Tercentenary Committee in charge of the speaking competitions. The winner will speak at the meeting of Associated Harvard Clubs over a world-wide hook-up next fall.

The winners in last night's trials have, with the exception of Grubbs, been connected with Freshman debating and are members of the Union Society.
