The Russian Research Center will celebrate tomorrow the tenth anniversary of its founding.
Researchers at the Center since 1948 have produced more than 30 books and 350 articles on the Communist system.
The Center has served as a training ground for young men, many of whom are now teaching at United States and foreign universities. The Harvard Center and Columbia's Russian Institute have trained 600 scholars since World War II.
Because the Center itself does no teaching, most of its young researchers have studied under the Russian Regional Program or the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures in addition to their research work.
Travel restrictions have prevented many of the researchers from setting foot across the Soviet border. However, since restrictions were eased in 1956, 27 staff members and alumni of the Center have visited Russia.
Grants from the Carnegie Corporation have supported the Center during its decade of work.
