LEADERSHIP OR BOSS RULE

Representative Kent, of California, to Speak in Emerson D at 4.30 o'clock.

Hon. William Kent, Congressman from California, will deliver the seventh lecture in the series on the Progressive Movement in Emerson D this afternoon at 4.30 o'clock. His topic will be "Leadership as a Substitute for Boss-Rule," and will deal with some of the problems of political leadership which are involved in the advance of such extreme democratic measures as the initiative and the popular election of United States Senators.

Mr. Kent is a graduate of Yale. He has taken an active interest in politics throughout the West for many years. In 1897 he was a member of the Chicago City Council and two years later president of the Municipal Voters' League. He is probably best known for the prominent part he took in the solution of the Chicago traction problem. Mr. Kent has also been a leader in the movement for civil service reform and is at present an active member in the Civil Service Reform League. The lecture will be open to members of the University.
