A dead man’s body was found in a Harvard Dental School laboratory on Friday morning, spurring deployment of a hazardous material team and further investigation from the Boston Police and Fire Departments.
Authorities located no chemical spills inside the Longwood building, which was temporarily evacuated after the body was found.
“What appeared to be a deceased person with some type of bag that had some kind of chemical in it,” Boston Police Bureau of Field Services Superintendent William Ridge told a group of reporters. “At that point [the police] immediately backed out at which point Boston Fire responded with the Hazmat group,” Ridge said.
A medical examiner will determine the cause and time of death.
On Thursday, the Dental School held its Commencement ceremony for new graduates. The Dental School is also celebrating its 150th sesquicentennial anniversary this year.
