Currier TLR Makeover
In April, when it surfaced that Currier House’s longtime late-night hotspot the Tuchman Living Room would be converted into a reading room in the new school year, FM proclaimed, “R.I.P. T.L.R.”
But Currier HoCo Co-Chair Techrosette Leng ’07 insists that when students check out the new party space being built in Tuchman’s old art studio, they will bid good riddance to the old TLR.
“When we first pitched the idea, there was a huge backlash and tons of nostalgia,” Leng says. “But once [Currier residents] got a chance to visit the art studio space, they were thrilled at the idea, because it’s a really cool space.”
The as-yet-unnamed party pad is 50% larger than the old TLR. Slated to open in late October, the new space will feature skylights, a built-in bar, an outdoor area concealed from the prying eyes of HUPD, and, eventually, a killer sound system.
“Cribs,” we hope you’re paying attention.
Cambridge Queen’s Head Pub
This place sounds sweeter every time FM gets more details about it. And it still doesn’t open until February!
Zachary A. Corker ’04, the project manager for Loker Commons planning and program development, is still trying to nail down the pub’s exact opening date. When that’s settled, he will begin booking bands for the planned three-day grand opening extravaganza.
For now, Corker has one more tantalizing tidbit to offer about the officially-named Cambridge Queen’s Head Pub (“Queen’s Head” was already taken by a theme bar in Florida).
In addition to the full menu of pub grub, the Cambridge Queen’s Head will feature three sizes of appetizers: the “floater,” for one; the “blocking group,” for six to eight; and the pièce de résistance, the “endowment,” a giant H-shaped platter featuring every appetizer on the menu.
“It’s an appetizer of enormous proportions,” Corker says.
Money ain’t worth what it used to be, but $29 billion will still buy you a shitload of drunk munchies.
Lamont Library Café
Bookworms and javanistas, rejoice. Beth S. Brainard, director of communications for the Harvard College Library, has confirmed that the much-anticipated Lamont Library Café will open its doors on October 17.
And what bring-down-the-house, season-making kickoff bash does HCL have planned?
“We’re going to have a very simple ribbon-cutting and a little thank-you ceremony for the students and people who’ve been involved in the planning,” says Brainard. “And then we’re going to be taking people through the café for a quick tour before it opens. Very low-key.”
Get pumped!
