Janitor's Note:

All the lights are dim, as I sweep up a pile of beer cans, broken exacto knives, empty coffee cups

All the lights are dim, as I sweep up a pile of beer cans, broken exacto knives, empty coffee cups and cigarette butts. I am the janitor for What Is To Be Done? and the editors left me here to write this week's notes. It is up to me to inform you that this will be the last magazine until September, as my generous employers are going on their well deserved summer vacations. Jenn Mnookin will be summering in Paris, eating "Croissan'wiches" in French Burger Kings. Maia Harris will travel to exotic California to help the impoverished and her tan. Jeff Chase is journeying to Bavaria where he will be trying to improve his German vocabulary and doing research and development for a sequel to a recent article on beer commercials. When last seen, Chase was muttering a German phrase, roughly translatable as something unprintable. Jeff Wise will reside in Manila, supporting either Marcos or communist insurgency by knocking over tourist bingo games. Andrea Monfried will sojourn to Greece and promises to spray paint "Bono is God" on the Parthenon. And Mimi Sheller will slip down to Mexico to buy drugs. As usual, I'm staying here to do all the dirty work for a hopeless bunch of miscreants. Oh well. Until September.
