On Streep Street

French Lieutenant's Woman(Sacks): Yet another love story, with that old cliche, the movie within the movie. Why doesn't anyone ever take it one step further? To fully appreciate the ending, learn which Meryl Streep is Anne and which Meryl Streep is Sarah. The acting is awesome, the script is terrific, the structure is brilliant, the scenery is beautiful and you'll leave the theater feeling miserable. By the way, this film, like the book, has a happy ending and a sad ending, take your pick. This is the One-Blank-Cartridge-In-The-Firing-Squad's-Guns School of Movie Making.

The Spy Who Loved Me (Science Center): Sexist violence. You remember which Bond this one was--Barbara Bach, the Pyramids, Jaws--ah, you remember now. Here, let me ruin the beginning for you: he has a parachute....

Flesh Gordon (Harvard Square): Science Fiction preoccupied with sex.

Stripes (Harvard Square): Army comedy preoccupied with sex. Do you think Bill Murray lucked into his style or is he a comic genius conscious of his persona and therefore able to adapt to changing tastes? Only time will tell.

King Of Hearts (Harvard Square): The movie this reviewer will attend if a suitable companion can be found. It's about a French town that opens the doors of its insane asylum just before the Nazis arrive. Cheaper than the MX and more effective. This is one of those cult movies that people go to see 37 times before they scream "I'm sick of this shit" and run out of the theater. My theory is that every fifth frame of a cult movie shows an authority figure saying "See this movie repeatedly." I use a similar tactic.
